FAQ

Do I need a referral?

As a private paying patient you do not need a referral to see our hand therapist. However, if you are claiming Workcover or another third party is funding your treatment (i.e DVA), you will require a referral from your GP.

Can I claim private health?

Every health fund has different levels of cover, with different inclusions. It is recommended that you contact your health fund to enquire if your level of cover includes “occupational therapy”.

Is there Medicare rebates available?

Some patients may be eligible for rebates under the “Chronic disease management plan” which provides a rebate for up to five allied health sessions per year. Please consult your GP to see if you are eligible and for them to complete the relevant referral under that scheme.

Do I need to see the surgeon
as well?

No. Unless you have been referred to Dr de Hoog specifically, you do not need to have a consultation with him. However, if throughout your hand therapy treatment, it is identified that you would benefit from an orthopaedic opinion, this will be discussed with you and you will be advised on the steps required to book in with Dr de Hoog. Consultations with Dr de Hoog are billed separately, and you will require a referral from your GP to qualify for Medicare rebates for these consultations.
